Global Strategies for HIV Prevention
Global Strategies implements international strategies to prevent HIV infection and care for those affected by HIV by means of strategic alliances with those who share in a compassion for alleviating the suffering of women and children. IPOP assists local health care providers in addressing what they consider to be the most pressing problems of child health in their communities through education, research and material support. They collaborate with organizations in Goma, DRC and Saragur, India. In 2009 International Pediatric Outreach Project will send physical therapists Loran Hollander and Laura Keyser to help local providers begin to address vast rehabilitation needs. Loran and Laura will implement a curriculum that includes 100 hours of formal didactic instruction as well as one-on-one clinical mentorship in the rehabilitation clinics of Heal Africa Hospital and the Hospital for the Handicapped. They will train both orthopedic officers and physical therapists in the identification, management, and prevention of the common musculoskeletal and neurological impairments in this region. Hope Walks began with a passion to raise awareness of the growing number of children and orphans affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Hope Walks is an educational and fund raising walk that provides an opportunity for children, their families and friends to make a difference in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children worldwide.
